Therapies Used at StillPointe

CranioSacral Therapy

Dr. Bestick palpating the subluxation.

CranioSacral Therapy (C.S.T.) is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on technique which encourages balance of the nervous system to improve the functioning of the brain and spinal cord. The CranioSacral system includes the brain, spine and sacrum which are all connected by a continuous membrane of the body’s deepest fascia or connective tissue, known as the Dura, which houses the brain and the central nervous system.

What are some of the common conditions treated by CranioSacral therapy?
  • Headaches, sinus congestion, TMJ disorder
  • Asthma
  • Neck and back pain
  • Ear problems, tinnitus
  • Pregnancy-related back pain
  • Central nervous system disorders such as cerebral palsy, seizure disorders and ADD/ADHD
  • Childhood and infant concerns such as colic, otitis media (ear infections), reflux and constipation

At StillPointe, our doctors and massage therapists are trained in the Upledger Method of CranioSacral Therapy. It is a gentle, light technique often used in conjunction with a chiropractic adjustment. Longer full body or 10-step sessions are available from our massage therapists.

Active Release Technique (A.R.T.)

A.R.T. is a specialized technique that has helped thousands of individuals with injuries related to auto accidents, work and sports related injuries that become permanent.

This technique involves working with muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints to influence the nerves to function properly. This allows the injury to heal faster so that the injured person can return to an active lifestyle.

Unlike traditional medical treatments such as using anti-inflammatory drugs, deep-tissue massage, stretching and surgery, A.R.T. treatments are less intrusive, used as an alternative for faster healing and manually breaking up adhesions. Adhesions are the scar tissue that entraps muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. There are more than 30 places alone that can trap the nerves in the arm. Active motion is what separates this procedure from most other soft-tissue manipulation techniques.  It is used in conjunction with release of the adhesions by the therapist.

At StillPointe, we are trained to evaluate and treat using A.R.T. for tendinitis, carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder and other conditions that cause adhesion.

Frequency Specific Micro-current

This is a very sophisticated and specialized type of electrical current that is used to stimulate fast healing on a cellular level. Micro-current (FSM) can trigger quick restoration and reverse the damage of years and injury.

It can heal each cell and fiber, banishing fibrosis and restoring circulation to complete the task.  What is truly remarkable is that this process works quickly, with minimal discomfort for you.

For years, sports medicine has used localized electrical current to block pain in professional athletes.  FSM provides sudden release of stress and tension in damaged muscles.  Most patients using FSM experience reduced symptoms.

What are some of the conditions that benefit from FSM?
  • TMJ/TMD
  • Whiplash
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic lower back pain
  • Shoulder and neck pain

Low Level Laser (Cold Laser)

Reducing Painful, Inflamed Conditions

Low Level Laser uses light, infrared or photon energy that can penetrate up to two inches below the skin surface.

This causes an increase in cellular metabolism with no tissue damage. Low Level Laser usually takes only a few minutes and is done as a series over a period of one to two weeks.

Low Level Laser helps treat a variety of painful and inflamed conditions of the soft tissues and joints:
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Sport injuries
  • Jaw pain
  • Headaches
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Exercise and Rehabilitation

Exercise and Rehabilitation

Your treatment plan at StillPointe may include several different types of tailored therapy and exercise. You will receive basic exercises and stretches to help alleviate pain, increase range of motion and strengthen the weakened area of the body so you are less likely to injure it again. We can also provide comprehensive therapy for acute and chronic problems with Frequency Specific Micro-current or Low Level Laser.

In addition, we will create individualized exercise programs for those wanting to lose weight and gain strength and energy.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture stimulates specific points on the body that improve circulation and body function, and reduce pain.

It has been used in the healing arts for more than 5,000 years. Points are stimulated and balance the body’s energy through pressure and/or needle stimulation and can be used to treat a variety of health conditions.  Acupuncturists focus on a vital energy called “chi.” Chi flows through a complex network of pathways (meridians) in the body to help open up the meridian channels, which are the pathways of body energy circulation.  Any blockage of this circulation will cause pain or dysfunction.  Because acupuncture enhances the body’s natural healing process, it is effective for countless disorders.

What are some of the conditions that benefit from acupuncture?
  • Sciatica
  • Tendinitis
  • Headaches
  • Sinus pain
  • TMJ disorders
  • Neck and back pain
  • Systemic problems such as irritable bowel, fertility issues and skin problems

Orthotics

“Improve your back – and your golf game!”

At StillPointe, we feel that it is important to support your feet, since they are the base of the pelvis and affect your back, neck and posture.

We scan all patients for pelvic imbalance and foot problems with the Foot Levelers digital scanner.  We can then give you a printed report that explains recommendations for orthotics if needed.  There are many types of orthotics offered to fit athletic shoes, dress shoes, sandals and golf shoes.

Golfers may be interested to learn that “ParFlex Plus Pelvic Stabilizers” have been shown through research to improve balance and proprioception in experienced golfers.  (Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutic, 1997.)  Another study in the same publication, in the year 2000, found that golfers who wore Stabilizers daily for six weeks experienced a 3-5 mph increase in club-head velocity.  A 5 mph increase is equivalent to 15 yards of increased drive distance!

Come into StillPointe for a complimentary scan to improve your game (and your back).
